20-22 September, 2018. Madrid (Spain)
The Spanish University Service-Learning Association, in partnership with The Spanish University Service-Learning Network and “Europe Engage”, the European network of service-learning in Higher Education, are delighted to announce that the IX Spanish & I European Conference on Service-Learning in Higher Education will be hosted by the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Universidad Pontifica de Comillas and the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia in Madrid (Spain) on September 20th-22nd 2018.
The academic programme chair, Dr. Pilar Aramburuzabala, and the organization committee look forward to welcoming you to this special event that focuses on service-learning in European Higher Education. We endeavour to create a rich and engaging conference so as to share and promote scholarship in the field and the use of this methodology in Higher Education institutions. The focus of the presentations is on practice and research incorporating a variety of theoretical and methodological perspectives.
The Spanish University Service-Learning Network has been organizing its anual conferences since 2010. In 2017 an association was created with the aim of strengthening the collaboration and exchange of experiences of service-learning, disseminating educational and social projects based on this methodology, and promote research and processes of institutionalization of this methodology in the Spanish universities.
Europe Engage, the European network of service-learning in Higher Education, was launched in September of 2017 as an international network of european professionals interested in promoting S-L as an innovative pedagogical approach that has an impact on the development of engaged citizenship in Europe in a collaborative manner. The network derived from the Erasmus+ project “Europe Engage. Developing a Culture of Civic Engagement through Service-Learning within Higher Education in Europe”, that brought together 12 universities from across Europe that drew on existing practice, shared knowledge and developed best practice related to service-learning. In August of 2017, once the project finished, it was agreed by all partners to develop towards a European network that is open to all professionals and postgraduate students who are interested in the field of service-learning in European Higher Education.
